Club América secured an important victory in the sixth round of the Apertura 2025 by defeating Atlas 4-2 at the Estadio Jalisco, in a match full of controversy, red cards, penalties, comebacks, and goals of the highest quality. The game itself started with a delay due to a lightning storm over Guadalajara.

The scoreboard opened in the 21st minute with a VERY DUBIOUS penalty converted by Brian Rodríguez to give América the lead, but the home side reacted and equalized before halftime with a precise strike from Gustavo Del Prete after an assist from Uros Durđevic. Just moments into the second half, Diego González found space in the box to put Atlas ahead in the 49th minute, igniting the home fans’ hopes. In a razor-thin play involving Djuka, the referee annulled what would have been the 3-1 goal, a decision that also prematurely voided winnings for bettors who had wagered on an Atlas victory.

América showed why it remains one of the giants of Mexican football, leveling the match in the 73rd minute with a spectacular goal from Álvaro Fidalgo, who finished with precision after linking up with Kevin Álvarez. When the game seemed destined for a draw, debutant Allan Saint-Maximin made his mark by scoring in the 89th minute to silence the Estadio Jalisco. In stoppage time, the storyline that has surrounded referee “Gato” Ortiz in recent weeks reappeared: ANOTHER PENALTY FOR AMÉRICA. Víctor Dávila missed the initial attempt, but after Camilo Vargas’ brilliant save, he pounced on the rebound to seal the 4-2 victory in the 96th minute.

With this result, América reached 14 points and climbed into second place in the league table, just one behind leaders Monterrey, who have 15 points. Atlas, meanwhile, remains with only 4 points, drifting further from playoff contention, though with the return of Diego Cocca and the resilience shown, the fans have reasons to remain hopeful despite the defeat.
