The Los Angeles Chargers earned a convincing 27–13 preseason victory over the New Orleans Saints at SoFi Stadium, driven by a dominant defensive effort and poised quarterback play from Trey Lance. Head coach Jim Harbaugh praised his team’s energy and determination, highlighting cornerback Eric Rogers for two interceptions, including a spectacular pick-six that he called one of the best plays he had ever seen. Rogers also broke up a key third-down pass, while linebacker Caleb Murphy delivered three sacks and Marlowe Wax recorded eight tackles while handling multiple linebacker roles.
Trey Lance led the team in rushing yards, using his mobility to convert critical third downs while maintaining control of the offense. Harbaugh credited Lance’s decision-making and presence, noting the importance of those plays to extend drives. Running backs Raheim “Rocket” Sanders and Hassan Haskins ran with power and ball security, with Dalevon Campbell providing a deep-ball spark.
For the Saints, it was the first game under head coach Kellen Moore, who saw moments of promise but also issues with consistency and a lack of explosive runs. Quarterback Spencer Rattler admitted to an up-and-down night with missed opportunities in the red zone and a costly strip sack. Moore praised Tyler Shough for bouncing back after an interception and commended rookie Torricelli Simpkins III, who was pressed into service at center for most of the game and responded well.
The Chargers improved to 2–0 in the preseason and will continue evaluating talent in the coming weeks, while the Saints aim to sharpen execution and recover from injuries before the regular season begins.
Final Score: Chargers 27 – Saints 13
