The 2025 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps brought a statement performance from McLaren as Oscar Piastri secured a commanding victory ahead of teammate Lando Norris in a rain-delayed race. With this result, Piastri extended his championship lead to 16 points over Norris. The two locked out the front row in qualifying, with Norris taking pole just 0.085 seconds ahead of Piastri. Charles Leclerc completed the podium for Ferrari.

Rain caused a 90-minute delay and multiple laps behind the Safety Car. When racing finally got underway with a rolling start, Piastri took advantage on the opening lap. He overtook Norris heading into Les Combes and managed the pace from there, eventually crossing the line 3.4 seconds ahead. Leclerc finished third, nearly 20 seconds behind, while Max Verstappen came in fourth in what was Red Bull’s best result since their leadership changes.

McLaren solidified its dominance in the Constructors’ Championship, now holding 516 points, more than twice Ferrari’s total of 248 and well ahead of Mercedes. Team Principal Andrea Stella praised both drivers, stating that they are performing at a level worthy of fighting for a world championship. He also emphasized that the difference between them comes down to execution and fine margins.

Norris opted for hard tyres during the only round of pit stops, while Piastri stayed on mediums. Stella confirmed that the choice was left open and that Norris hoped to benefit later in the race. However, slight derating issues and minor mistakes, including lockups in Turn 1 and oversteer in Turn 9, cost him valuable time and prevented a close battle in the final laps.

This was Piastri’s sixth victory of the season and McLaren’s sixth one-two finish, marking their most dominant stretch in a decade. As the championship heads to Hungary next weekend, the fight between Piastri and Norris is only getting tighter.
