Paris Saint-Germain crowned themselves champions of the 2025 UEFA Super Cup after defeating Tottenham Hotspur in a thrilling final that ended 2-2 in regular time and was decided 4-3 in a tense penalty shootout. It was a landmark match for the Parisians, who played their first official game without Gianluigi Donnarumma in goal and still found a way to triumph.
Micky van de Ven opened the scoring in the 39th minute in a chaotic sequence. The defender challenged Marquinhos for the ball, which deflected off the post, and with the goal at his mercy, he fired home for 1-0. Tottenham’s relentless high press kept PSG pinned back, and Cristian “Cuti” Romero doubled the lead in the 48th minute with a perfectly placed header to the far post from a set piece. At 2-0, it looked eerily similar to PSG’s FIFA Club World Cup elimination, where they failed to recover after going down early.
Tottenham’s defensive line was nearly flawless, pushing high and catching PSG attackers offside multiple times. But the French side fought back late—Kang-in Lee gave them hope in the 85th minute, and Gonçalo Ramos struck in stoppage time (90+5) to send the game to penalties. Remarkably, PSG had only managed one shot on target until the 83rd minute, yet they forced a dramatic turnaround.
In the shootout, PSG held their nerve. Vitinha missed the first penalty, but Ramos, Dembélé, Lee, and Nuno Mendes all converted. Tottenham missed three of their attempts, sealing PSG’s victory. With this result, Paris Saint-Germain lifts the 2025 UEFA Super Cup trophy, proving that even without their star goalkeeper, they have the resilience and quality to claim European glory.
