Tigres UANL hosted Guadalajara at Estadio Universitario in the first leg of the Clausura 2026 quarterfinals, in a match that shifted momentum as it progressed.
The game started with a surprise. Guadalajara took the lead in the 11th minute, when Ricardo Marín capitalized on a play inside the box to open the scoring. The goal unsettled Tigres, who, despite having more possession, struggled to create clear chances while Chivas remained organized defensively.
However, the match turned just before halftime. In the 45th minute, Jesús Angulo found the equalizer, a goal that not only leveled the score but also energized the stadium and completely changed the rhythm of the game.
In the second half, Tigres came out with greater intensity and decided the match within minutes. Juan Brunetta scored a stunning volley in the 52nd minute to complete the comeback, and shortly after, Diego Sánchez finished off a counterattack to extend the lead, leaving the visitors without a response.
From that point on, Tigres controlled the match and came close to increasing the margin, while Guadalajara failed to react. Goalkeeper Oscar Whalley prevented an even bigger scoreline with several key saves.
The final score was 3-1 in favor of Tigres, giving them the advantage in the series and positioning them as favorites to advance, while Chivas will need a comeback in the second leg.
